Osaru no Monkichi (often referred to as Monkichi in short) is a Sanrio character introduced in 1992. He is based on a monkey.
Biography
Monkichi is optimistic, easygoing and upbeat, but "gets a little carried away sometimes". His real name is Oyamono Monkichi. His birthday is January 13th. Monkichi is "crazy about puns". Once he sets his mind to something, there is nothing slowing him down.
Monkichi loves bananas and is able to eat ten in one minute. He lives in the Japanese countryside in the hills, with his father Papa "the pun-master", and his mother Mama, who "can do amazing things in the kitchen".
Monkichi's dream is to become a poet.
Monkichi's charm point is his bright red bottom, "proof that he is 100% Japanese monkey" and bulging eyes, especially when surprised.
He is secretly on a date with Momochan.
He looks almost identical to Monta, who thinks he is better than him.
