Sanrio Wiki has moved from ShoutWiki. Account creation is closed to prevent spam on a company typically seen in the West for its children's media. If you want an account here (or to activate your old ShoutWiki account here) please email User:EvieMelody (chickasaurus@hotmail.co.uk) with a requested username, or ask her on Twitter. She will send a new randomly generated password for you to change later via Special:Preferences.
Alternatively, email or tweet me with an article request because not everyone knows how to edit wikis, and I can hopefully write it for you. This wiki is not related to the one with ads on Fandom (formally Wikia).

Sanrio's name
I wonder (I'm still really a newbie to Sanrio though am a dormant fan if that makes sense) where Sanrio's name came from. Is it from -san and Leo (as in lion) or maybe sun lion. Cute. From Evie (Torchickens) ✿ 09:31, 26 February 2020 (UTC)

- In an issue of The Strawberry News they revealed a history/gallery of all (if I remember right) the logos. :o ^^ I meant to scan them but never got around to it. "Name origin of Sanrio Kore ga Sanrio no Himitsu Desu. (これがサンリオの秘密です。) states that Sanrio is an alternative reading of its older name Yamanashi [Silk Center] (Sanri) and the exclamation "ou" for excitement. Of note, an old nickname of Shintaro Tsuji's is the "Strawberry King" (king, 王 is ou) (not to be confused with the character). Sanrio is deeper than people think
The Strawberry News has a lot of information about the legacy/merchandise/events/lore of all the characters, when usually lots (but not all) are restricted to the online character directories, like the official Japanese one. I gather it's like if you were a comic book fan, lots and lots of information is simply not on the Internet; so the discussion on Sanrio might often be the simple reasons like cuteness, or what's trending.
