Sambo and Hannah is Sanrio universe, introduced in the 1980s; according to an article in the The Strawberry News.[clarification needed]
The characters in this universe were illustrated by Yuko Yamaguchi. The Sambo and Hannah characters have since become obscure possibly due to their depiction resembling controversial racial stereotypes of black people.
