Badtz-Maru or Bad Badtz-Maru is a Sanrio character created in 1993, based on a black boy penguin with spiky hair. His name is a play on the Japanese words ばつ ("X") and 丸 ("O") as in cross and circle.
He is a member of the Hapidanbui.
Badtz-Maru was created by Hisato Inoue.
Biography
Badtz-Maru is a mischievous character based on a black penguin who lives in Gorgeous Town. He was born in Oahu, Hawaii on April 1st (April Fool's Day). Though "bad", he behaves before his mother. He is apparently good deep down but "too shy to express himself directly".
His hobbies include taking photographs of bad guy movie stars and "beating up goodygoodies". His favourite foods include expensive sushi in Ginza and poripari ramen. [1]
Badtz-Maru has a mother and a father who is the boss of a gang.[2]

Badtz-Maru appears in Sanrio Timenet Mirai-Hen as a monster battler in Sky City. He may heal his monsters when they are on low health with a Staminagen DX. He fights using the following monsters.
