Monsters (Japanese: モンスター) are collectible creatures and characters in the Game Boy Color video games Sanrio Timenet: Kako Hen and Mirai Hen, Space-Net: Cosmo Red and Cosmo Blue and Space-Net: Cosmo Neo (of sorts, though are lifeforms both friendly and hostile found on the various planets) as well as Bouken Jikuu Timenet.

Most of the monsters appear to be original characters owned by Timenet Co. Ltd, however, there are exceptions including Hangyodon and Monster Zakki.

In Sanrio Timenet: Kako Hen and Mirai Hen

There are 161 types of monsters in the game excluding Monster Zakki, White Zakkī who may not be collectible.

A total of six monsters at a time may battle alongside the hero or heroine against other monsters that randomly appear, first-party Sanrio characters who use them, as well as a select few scripted monster battles.

In order for the hero or heroine to repair the Pillar of Time, the player must collect 161 monsters which do not have to be the same type in order to fill it with Time Fragments.

Obtaining monsters

Players can collect more monsters with items called Get Cards and up to six monsters can be held at a time.

If the player obtains more than six monsters, a monster will be sent to the Pillar of Time and can later be withdrawn from a Computer or Mobile PC.

The Toki no Roujin gives the player ten Get Cards to begin with, but more can be purchased from a shop.

Later, a Digital Camera can be obtained. The Digital Camera is an item like a Get Card that can be used infinitely and must be assembled from three Digital Camera Parts.[clarification needed]

If the player obtains a monster and the Pillar of Time is full, an existing monster must be released from the Pillar of Time to hold it there, though the player may also release a monster immediately if they find themselves in this position. It is possible to release monsters in the Pillar of Time at any time using a Computer or Mobile PC.

Battles

Monsters can attack with a maximum of four moves labelled "A", "B", "C" and "D" and each move requires energy points. Moves have a variety of different effects, including dealing damage and afflicting status problems. A monster has a maximum of five moves it can learn naturally.

New moves are learned after gathering special points after battle known as move points (Japanese: わざポイト) and the amount of experience that is needed to learn the next skill depends on the type of monster. Moves have a variety of different effects, including dealing damage and afflicting status problems.

If a monster uses a move and doesn't have enough energy, the move will be used but health points will be used instead of energy points. After battles, the user's monsters can earn experience and level up. Leveling up can increase a monster's maximum health points, maximum energy points and the "strength", "defense", "speed" and "spirit" stats.

The user's monsters may also earn Skill Points. When a monster reaches a specific Skill Point target (which depends on the monster), it can learn a new skill after battle. A maximum of four skills can be learned this way, and targets will increase for later moves.

Attributes

Main article: Attribute (Sanrio Timenet).

Monsters exist under 13 attributes, "light" (Japanese: ひかり), "fire" (Japanese: ほのお), "water" (Japanese: みず), "earth" (Japanese: つち), "wind" (Japanese: かぜ), "ghost" (Japanese: れい), "laser" (Japanese: レーザー), "heat" (Japanese: ヒート), "bomb" (Japanese: ボム), "ice" (Japanese: アイス), "machine" (Japanese: マシン), "electric" (Japanese: エレキ) and "ESP" (Japanese: ESP) and there is an extra attribute named "normal" (Japanese: ノーマル) not specific to any monster.

Rare monsters

Bodyguards

After the hero or heroine is transported into the Field or Bio Farm, he or she will have the choice of having one of three rare monsters known as bodyguards (Japanese: ボディーガード) join them.

In Sanrio Timenet: Kako Hen, the available bodyguards are Pikapochi, Unchinbōya and Hyūpo. In Sanrio Timenet: Mirai Hen, the available bodyguards are Chikotto, Erebi and Eepy.

Illusory monsters

Illusory monsters are monsters in Sanrio Timenet: Kako Hen and Mirai Hen that cannot be obtained normally in game without an official distribution or a cheating device, or hacking into the game.

Packaged with the games was a 'campaign' sheet where players could send for the illusory monster Stardust. The illusory monster Time Surfer can be seen after the splash screens before the title screen.

In Bouken Jikuu Timenet

It has been requested that this article or section is in need of additional information.
The article is missing: information about whether the Digital Camera appears in the manga.

Monsters appear in the manga Bouken Jikuu Timenet. Like in Sanrio Timenet: Kako Hen and Mirai Hen, monsters help Tōru and Ēru on their adventures and monsters can be obtained using Get Cards.
