Mr. Careful is a temporary name for Mr. Bump in Mr. Bump loses his memory. One day, he fell out of the window and lost his memory. Mr. Muddle (known for always 'getting things in a muddle') then told him he was Mr. Careful, so he believed it.
Mr. Careful met Mrs Packet the grocer, but accidentally dropped her eggs, so she felt (despite the name) he was not very careful. When Mr. Bottle wanted someone to do the milk round, Mr. Careful tried to help but also smashed the milk bottles. Another unfortunate situation was with Mr. Brush; he wanted someone to carefully pass the paint pot, but fell down and the paint pot landed on his head.
After bumping into a tree and having an apple fall out of the tree on to his hand, he remembered his true identity, but forgot everything else when he Mr. Careful. Farmer Fields then told him to be careful, but he fell down the bank into the river.
