The pink mouse is a character from Hello Kitty's The Princess of the Magic Forest (known as The Sleeping Princess outside of Japan).
While Prince Robin (Alexander in the dub) was with Princess Flora (Sarah in the dub), Prince Robin saw the mouse and followed it into Guala's Pond. The mouse then disappeared and Guala took Prince Robin away (as part of the earlier bargain the King and Queen had with him), turning him into Zalard.
