Sambo and Hannah is Sanrio universe, introduced in the 1980s; according to an article in the The Strawberry News.[clarification needed]
The characters in this universe were illustrated by Yuko Yamaguchi. The Sambo and Hannah characters are controversial due to their depiction resembling racial stereotypes of black people, similar to Bibinba.
