Chao is one of Unico's friends. They resemble a cat, and ride on a broomstick. They are quite nice, and can also be seen with a red ribbon on their head.
Chao was once an abandoned cat, but was transformed into a human girl by Unico's magic. He has links with the ghost baron.[1]
