Takashi Yanase (Japanese: やなせ たかし) was a Japanese artist, writer, lyricist, poet[1] and the former chairman of Japan Cartoonists Association between May 2000-2012. He is popular as the creator of the Anpanman picture book and animated series. He was born on February 6, 1919 and passed away on October 13, 2013.

Yanase has also worked with Sanrio during the late Shōwa period, circa the 1970s-.
