The Sea Prince and the Fire Child (known in Japan as The Legend of Sirius) is a 1981 franchise by Shintaro Tsuji, the founder of Sanrio. The English version of the film, released in the United States was produced by Sync, Ltd.[1]
It is a romance story similar to the concept of Romeo and Juliet. In this film, Sirius a Water Child of the Water Clan and Malta a Fire Child of the Fire Clan fall in love, however they face opposition and sadly die together.
The Sea Prince and the Fire Child can be considered its own Sanrio universe, although it is dated and discussed less today. There is both a Sanrio Film and novel version.

"An Adventure Of The Heart For The Whole Family
Adults and children alike will love this mythological adventure set in the world of long, long ago. It's the story of two generations of love, jealousy and courage. Sirius, the Sea Prince, falls in love with Malta, the daughter of Hyperia, Queen of Fire. But, from the beginning, their love is clouded by their parents' stern disapproval. When Sirius and Malta try to escape their parents' wrath, they become enveloped in a powerful storm conjured by the evil Algorac, Lord of the Winds. The classic plight of these two lovers builds to an exciting climax as they struggle to stay together. This is family entertainment at its very best."
